I think often times you realize when you study your competition like most of our competitors do, that Zappos is not about low prices or anything like that, or there’s no secret sauce other than our people. And so, for us, from a collaborative standpoint, we have a lot to learn from some of our biggest competitors in this space from a technology standpoint, or from a marketing standpoint, we’re always looking for a competition. For that reason they’re looking to us for cultural learnings and how to use, to leverage the power of your employees to do amazing things. And at the end of the day the beautiful thing is there’s no other company in our business that approaches that culture in connectiveness and collaboration, both public and internal, like we do. And so, in our standard, a lot of ways we think of Zappos is not really a shoe company or a clothing company but a customer service company, which means that our competition really isn’t limited to another shoe company or another clothing company, but rather to pretty much the whole world. And so we don’t really get hang up on our competitors, there’s just too many of them.

So at Zappos a number of years ago our employees came together and put together what they thought were the Zappos core values. So we have ten core values, things like be humble, or things like create fun in a little weirdness, embracing drive change or do more with less. Like for instance, I'm talking to you now or about a year and half old back I was there just sitting on top of the Zappos box so that I’m[...]
I guess probably the most important thing we’ve done is open our doors and with every customers or employees or members of the public. There’s two elements that I think have been…have changed our culture which has been towards collaboration, probably the most meaningful thing we’ve done. If you think about first of all coming to Zappos, you come in the front door, and there’s only one way in and one way out. So if you’re visiting Zappos, you’re going[...]
