Anything that the company might want to do, could be looked at as a project. And every project is going to be staffed in the way that’s right for that project. And that means that it’s not really about a company having employees anymore, it’s more like a production, a producer, who can produce a number of… you can, you know, if you are working in the entertainment business, this has been the fact of life. Every one is a freelancer in that business, right, everyone is… and everything is a project, and it’s also not surprising that this creative industry evolved this way. I think we are going to be doing more and more creative kinds of things where people… and how do those projects work? Well sometimes, people get paid, sometimes they get a stake, they get a percentage of the profits from them, from the venture.
And so I think there are going to be platforms that evolve, that make this really easy. For any business, to say, and this is how I am working with my clients, it’s like well, tell me what it is that we are trying to accomplish. And I am acting in a way as a producer or director of a film would, and saying, okay, this is the team that I think that we need for that particular project. And another client might be a completely different team. So; it’s been, and so far it’s been very successful, people are very happy. The people who are on the projects are happy, the customers are happy. And I think that I am doing it on a very, very small scale with my little information design firm.
But I think that this is the way that businesses will go. And I think this is going to be more and more of the case, when you are… instead of having a car company, you are going to have a MGM kind of a brand, and there is going to be different people doing different parts of the car. And you are going to have the big, you are going to have the director of the car, it is like who is the guy at the Apple Apps… the Jonathan Ives character who has the vision for the car.
And it’s going to be like the creative director of the car, and all the pieces and parts are going to be sourced, there is not going to be a big Mercedes plant, there is going to be a Mercedes visionary, this is my opinion. There is going to be a number of Mercedes visionaries. You think about the way the creative industry works, well, will Steven Spielberg put his name on this? Well that means a lot, because people know who is Steven Spielberg. And, you know, why wouldn’t people expect the same for their vehicles, for their homes, for their products in their house, for the things that they buy, for the services that they buy?
You know what is the step of and this is… a brand is a kind of a filter. As people who are Apple fans, they will buy some… they don’t, you know, they will buy Apple products without even looking at them first. Because they have a trust and a credibility of that brand, and I think that’s going to be the case more and more all over the place.
And so I think that, we are moving into… as you move into this era where anything is possible, or a tremendous amount of things are possible, this is where creativity becomes more important. Because when anything is possible, what are you going to do? Well, you need kind of, you need some visionaries and you need some creative people say, well here is what we are going to do. We are going to make a car that, if you want to change it to a pick up truck on the weekends, and you want to change it to a roadster on the weekdays, you can do it. Just flip it on. We are going to make a car that, you know if you want to drop off the engine, and put another engine in your car, while they are working on your engine, you can do that. I mean that’s creative, that’s Wikispeed, and that’s visionary.
