Luis Suarez – Organizations need to get the world back on track

Is there any purpose for organizations today? Yeah to fix up the stupid mess that they have made over the last 50-60 years. That’s the main purpose. They need to get the world back on track. They’re the only ones who can get the world back on track. And why do I say they’re the only ones? Because they’re the only ones who have got the money, and unfortunately it is well ransomed money. And if you look, if you look into… I mean just the other day I was having this conversation inside of the firewall with some colleagues of mine. One was saying how the 200 richest people in the world actually had like… I don’t know, it was a figure that was just actually ridiculous in terms of the amount of wealth that they have accumulated.

And we were saying how eradicating poverty from the world would take like around one-tenth of their wealth. And the other thing that I mentioned as well, as part of the conversation was another piece of data that I saw about the amount of money that were spent in useless wars that could be used to actually eradicate poverty. That’s what corporations need to do. That’s what organizations need to do. And people tell me: okay, so why would an organization be interested in doing that? Okay so here is where my Hippie 2.0 comes forward. I would tell them because if you don’t do that, we will be extinct as a species.

We don’t… this is …we’re entering the stage where we’re on a matter of survival. Why? Because climate change for instance is going to rip us apart. You know the world is going to continue moving on, because that’s what earth has done for millions of years. We don’t. We’ve got our days numbered already, so what we might want to do is trying to make the most out of it, and reverse some of the cause of what we have done. I mean people will tell me: “okay so what do we have to do?” So I say: “I don’t know what do you think what we have to do, it is that we do have to do is a lot, if we don’t do it.” If organizations going suddenly come forward and say: “you know, we need to start figuring out how we can influence societies to fix the mess that we’ve done”, we’re going to have a very, very interesting time coming up in terms of violent incidents that could take scale that you wouldn’t believe it, and I don’t think that anyone wants violence.

And I think that, from that perspective, organizations need to understand how they do have a responsibility with the society that they live in. They are part of this society. They are not like mysterious world so that they can operate on their own rules and everything else just because they feel that they are above the law. They’re not. They’re just like any and sure every one of us, and we need to hound them. We need to get them to understand that. We need to get them to understand that right now. We are entering that stage of our mere survival in this world, if not already.

Luis Suarez - We don't need to socialize processes

We don't need to socialize processes. We actually need to get rid of the process exceptions. These are the problem because if you look into a process, you're looking into a business process… Let me… let me go back on that. So if you look into, if you look into how workflows work for employees: an employee has got to do a number of various different tasks on a daily basis. Some of them are process driven and some of[...]

Luis Suarez - Work is going to be a completely different thing

I never studied computing except for that one year, but I hated it so much that I never came back. Why? Because I didn’t have the environment. I was stuck on a piece of pen and paper. I was having one computer for 32 students and I went like “what? this is nonsense.” And obviously by the time that you wanted to go and apply what you learn, which is how computers will work for on perspective in terms of[...]

Luis Suarez - People will float from one organization to another

One of the things that I think is going to happening as well, is that we're going to see how organizations are going to shrink, right? And we're seeing that because lots of different businesses are laying off people like crazy. So we're going to see how these organizations are going to shrink. But what I keep telling people is that organizations will shrink, but workload won't. So someone has got to do that work eventually, and the ones that[...]

Luis Suarez - One of the biggest crises in leadership

And one of the things that you mentions in terms of those structures that are falling apart; let’s face it: right now we probably have the one or the biggest most profound crises in leadership in entire history. If you look into political leaders and what they're doing, it's like a huge mess. If you look into religious leaders it's even a worse mess. If you look into how different organizations have been operating with certain practices, that are not[...]

Bucking into my own country, everyone knows that they're helping all sorts of various different issues, corruption happening all over the place, and all of the various different things that may have been happening. You know, political parties polarizing the whole thing, getting people to hate each others’ gods and fight, and do all sorts of very unhealthy behaviors and everything else, and it was a bit like crispy environment. You could feel that on the streets. You could feel[...]

Luis Suarez - Chaos can be a wonderful thing

Anyone that has tried to make something structured, and industrialized it, and commoditized it, is going to have an issue with that chaos. And in fact most of the reluctance that happens, is still within the workforce in terms of how people are not using social networking tools is because of that. Because social networks introduce unstructured chaotic situations. And the people don't feel comfortable about them, because they don't know where it is, what to do. And the thing that[...]
