My goal is to give the opportunity for people to recombine those distributed tools. But actually, although the combination is very easy from a researcher’s point of view, but for end users, they’re not tool and the situation is the same as playing with Lego blocks. In the case of Lego, they introduced, if my memory is correct, more than 60 different new packages.

These are specific toys to train beginners. So, by playing with those new packages, new beginners will gradually learn how to play with. And then after certain levels or skills, they will purchase the generic blocks without any specific shapes.

Yes, without specific support. It’s about people learning by themselves.

Right, right. So, this is kind of gradual, the teaching process or the tutoring process is very important.

I’m very much interested in Facebook and also Twitter. This year, I started a new Facebook study supported by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports and Science and Technology in Japan. And this Facebook studies will make a plan for the coming five-year next phase action plan.

Initially, they asked me to focus on the application to green innovation, mainly energy saving. Since I live in Sapporo, so in Sapporo we have a lot of snowfall. So the snow plowing and removing is a very costly action, and so the operation. So we focused on the effective way of doing this by monitoring lots of sensors and also probe cars better.

One of the car companies in Japan has a very interesting system and they are willing to give us data. So we analyze them and try to find out the optimal way for plowing and removing, and then, as you know, this big disaster happened in Japan. So the minister asked us also to consider the application to disaster management response. And this requires the improvisation of federation of resources because there are lots of actions necessary which can be, which should be designed improvisationally depending on the different situations and the change of the situations. So, we are very much interested in this and also in such systems, the real time information from members of the public becomes very important.

So we are very much interested in how to deal with tweets.

A lot of my focusing is towards the improvisational federation resources. So, today we have lots about open resources, such as web, and still it’s a little bit difficult for all of the users to flexibly and improvisationally mix all web together.

We help to use all these resource as they are, but they are lots of potentialities if we can flexibly combine them together and also combine those tools with other tools and also with different kinds of data resources.

That’s what is very much interesting. And furthermore, if such in federated composite tools can be distributed through the web, then, people can also utilize those knowledge and reuse it in their own context. So, I’m very much interested in this kind of environment.
